Why Infant Massage?

Caring human touch is crucial for a healthy, thriving baby and the benefits of massaging your infant are potent and numerous. Many scientific studies show improved growth and development of the brain and nervous system, improved quality/length of sleep, strengthened immune system, better self-awareness, and stronger parent-child bonding.

Meaningful Communication Through Loving Touch is learned with this hands-on infant massage class. Specialized, simple massage strokes are learned through demonstration and supervised practice. Massage safety will be discussed and will be the #1 priority throughout. You will learn the Stages of Alertness and when infant massage is or isn’t appropriate. All parents will benefit by learning infant communication cues that will enable you to “talk” with your child long before verbal skills develop, reducing frustration for everyone and increasing the joy of parenthood! Parents of premature babies and babies with colic will benefit from learning focused techniques for helping your babies cope with these conditions. You will be supported and encouraged as you bond with your child in this very special way. Infant massage can be added to your Joy of Motherhood Package at a discounted rate.

Each 1-2 hour class is limited to six infants and their caretakers to provide one-on-one instruction in a safe, fun environment. Individual classes are also available before you even leave the hospital or once you arrive home. Mothers, fathers, grandparents, siblings (16+ years old-must be accompanied by a responsible adult), and caretakers are very welcome, but only one person will provide massage to each infant at each class. Infant massage is an intimate bonding experience that is designed to be completed from start to finish by one provider. Additional students will learn and practice hands-on techniques on infant-sized dolls.

You will receive an instructional booklet, a bottle of baby-safe massage oil, and a commemorative certificate of participation.
